The change has been to go towards a "anything goes" term in a facet. This lets
us define date range searches such as "LastWeek".
Since Facet and Scan are really quite similar.. Ralph suggested a DisplayTerm
in facet.. My response has been to suggest an anything goes approach in Scan
and depreciating DisplayTerm or putting it, for those that want it, into
extraTermData where we can also optionally have hints and help.
At the core I'd like us to accept "anything goes" as a generic model for term
values. This would require a change to the wording "The term, exactly as it
appears in the index" (see Scan specification 1.7 Term in SRU v.1.2 as well as
the current draft) from scan values.
The value of a term in a scan response should return a term that works as a
search term BUT not demand that its "exactly as it appears in the index". It
can return a term "exactly" but I don't think it should ever be required to do
so. Its the server's business.
Instead of "The term, exactly as it appears in the index" as value I would
suggest "A term that when used in a search produces a search response as
desired by the server that provided the term in scan" (or something to that
effect).
Following this logic.. DisplayTerm I would suggest should be depreciated and
put into--- for those that need or want it--- into extraTermData--- which we'd
add to Facet.
