Hi,
I'm new to EAD, so I thought I'd pose this question to the list.
We are planning on editing our <unitdate> @normal attributes so that the
attribute value is a xs:gYear (YYYY), for example, 1835. This will allow
us to create an index in MarkLogic Server.
We would do this for ranges of years by choosing the first year for the
value. So, 1835-1836 would be normal="1835" not normal="1835/1836".
My question is: Can I leave the dateencoding="iso8601" in the
<eadheader> element or by using the individual date rather than the
range, am I not strictly following the ISO 8601 standard and so should
remove the dateencoding attribute?
To make matters worse I don't have a copy of ISO 8601 to consult! (But I
may break down and buy it.)
Thanks,
Chris
