I was going to suggest that the plaster core had gotten broken and that
many decades ago the owner of the cylinder removed the remaining plaster
and forced the raw celluloid onto a wax cylinder he was not too crazy
about. He could possibly shaved it down a little to make an easier fit.
I wonder if the dual celluloid layer cylinder was a factory error.
