Hello,
Jay McKnight from Magnetic Reference Laboratory has a paper about
erasure of magnetic recordings in various external fields.

There are relatively inexpensive field meters should you wish to confirm
that the vacuum is truly safe.
I bought one of these about eight years ago and it works fine.
