Thank you all for the ideas. Most seem to think that
looonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggg baking time is required and so the batch
that is in the oven now will stay there till tomorrow night, making it
48 hours. I have tried taping them straight out of the oven and after
different cooling periods but the problem remains. I should mention that
not all machines show this problem. Most of the tapes play well, but the
Otari mx-50 and the Revox a-700 do not like the backing. The oven is a
Israeli design that can hold 320 tapes with comfort. Temperature is
about 55-60 degrees C. The only problem now is that if this is the
solution I have some timing problems since we run 1200-1400 tapes a
week. 320 tapes for 48 hours cuts me short. I can't add vacuum to this
oven but I could include a small exhaust fan that will remove moisture.
