Hello, Melodie,

Since each file is 1 MB and there are about as many of these as there
are megabytes in the original WAV file, I've always thought these were
the "special" audio format for Audacity...each 1 MB is a separate file,
linked together in the program.

It seems to be referred to as the "Audacity Block File" in a quick
Google search.

I think if you delete these, you are deleting your audio.

I do not think Audacity is a native WAV editor like say Samplitude,
Sequoia, Goldwave, Wavelab, etc. If you want to spend $50, my personal
opinion is Goldwave runs rings around Audacity. Samplitude is my favourite.
