Hi,
I am working with some very quiet digital audio files, from what I understand is a Sony handheld dictation recorder format. From what I can tell this is 8 kbps audio. I am told these are .MSV files, but Windows recognizes them as MP3's. There is a chane they could have been unknowingly converted before I received them.
I don't have the original player. I have played the file in Windows Media Player and also converted it to various higher bit depth/sample rates using Wavelab and it played back from there.
I'm wondering if there are any conversion issues that may lead to artifacts I am not aware of.
I am also wondering if anyone has any special techniques that I may be overlooking to enhance clarity of the recording. As expected, increasing volume only accentuates the low resolution of the file, actually making it less clear in the lowest level segments.
Speech content and noise reside in the same frequencies, and noise reductions efforts (EQ, x-Noise) are also yielding unsatisfactory results.
Thanks,
