Thanks for all the tips. I obtained a roll of Scotch 256 and it is exactly the self-same stuff I was
talking about. Good to know it's still available. Sold widely, available at average prices at
Amazon.com.
For other uses, where the tape is meant to stay forever (ie covering over writing on a file folder
tab), I always use the light green paint-masking tape that's cheap and plentiful. Regular yellow-ish
masking tape dries out and falls apart over time, but the glue in this green tape seems to be less
prone to drying out, so far.
