In this position, you will serve as an Audio-Video Preservation Technician in the Audio-Video lab of the Special Media Preservation Laboratory in College Park, Maryland.
This is a developmental position with promotion potential to the GS-8 level (through GS-7). At the full performance level, duties include:
Digitizes original, obsolete, deteriorated, and archival legacy analog and digital audio recordings such as open reel audio tape with varying track configurations, audio cassette formats, transcription discs, DAT tapes, and many other obsolete media formats.
Digitizes original, obsolete, deteriorated, and archival legacy analog and digital video recordings such as 1" open reel video tape, broadcast cassette formats such as 3/4" U-matic, Betamax, Beta SP, VHS, S-VHS, 8mm, Hi-8, MiniDV, DVC-Pro, HDCAM DVCPRO-HD, and many other Standard Definition and High Definition tape-based video formats.
Creates technical and administrative metadata contained within the file as well as external database documenting the digitization process, technical specifications, quality control, and quality assurance validations.
Conducts quality control and quality assurance inspection with assistance of Audio-Video Preservation Specialist of product produced and of the digitization/reformatting processes to ensure that lab standards are being maintained and that work produced and provided to the lab adhere to industry and archival standards.
Conducts basic calibration, trouble-shooting, and preventive maintenance of BOTH audio and video equipment used in the reformatting of audio and video records.
