From Pekka Gronow: "...My question is: has there been any recent move in the
USA towards joining the Rome convention for the protection of producers and
performers (without any reservations on broadcasting rights) ? If not, it
would support our claim that the extension was based on false claims..."
Yes there has been. It has been the biggest story in the broadcast trade
papers for several years.
I'm also not sure why it's being said the purpose is to match U.S. terms
since the U.S. extended our terms for the purpose of matching other
countries. It was extended to match the longest term because other countries
couldn't be expected to shorten their copyright terms to fit an
international agreement.
