ARSC,
This turned out so well I have decided to share. Pianist Jeffrey Biegel is
an esteemed concert artist with several recordings to his credit. When he
was 12 years old his teacher assigned him to learn the newly written Sonata
mystikos of Meyer Kupferman and to play it for the composer; I don't think
that work has been commercially recorded thus far. His performance was
recorded onto a cassette which got jammed at the opening; Jeffrey's
webmaster was able to fix the cassette, but lost the first two chords of the
recording. I offered to help, and so did Dennis Bathóry-Kitsz, who had
restored a different recording of the same work by another pianist just last
year for the Kupferman estate. Dennis sent me the first 15 seconds or so of
the second performance and I executed the join to the front of Jeffrey's
recording.
This file consists of (a) the damaged opening of Jeffrey's tape, (b) the
sample, with opening intact, sent by Dennis Bathóry-Kitsz and (c) the
finished join.

I am very grateful to talks that I have attended at past ARSC Conferences
that demonstrate such techniques, particularly the ones that Seth Winner has
done. I could've just slapped the two together and it would have been fine,
but I worked extra hard, seeking the greater invisibility which is far more
desirable.
The whole recording can be heard here (ca. 16:00)
