In my experience doing radio for 20 years, we never had a problem
with 176 - we DID have problems with Shamrock green box 7" reels.
176 was very reliable and consistent for us! All the things you say
here about it was true of shamrock, but not 176 as far as I know! we
used cases and cases of it from 1976 to 1988.
