with variable recording speeds from 9 cm/s to 120
cm/s. In addition to the normal head stack, the field
recorder featured an additional four-gap spinning
head assembly for playback at variable speeds without
a change in pitch, in other words, it was used to
expand speech or decode telegraphic or morse messages."
