Hi all --
This is a question for those of you that a) have EAD finding aids, b) have your collections in bar-coded boxes, and c) have to convert a box number to a bar code in order to request/locate an item (i.e., your storage operates based on bar codes, not on collection name/box number). Where do you store the link between box number and bar code? Do you include the bar code in the EAD (and if so, how)? Or is it stored in a separate collection-management database so staff have to look up box numbers to get the bar code? Or is it done in your OPAC, with a collection-level bib record with item records for each of the boxes? Or some other wildly creative option?
