I wonder what there is to be known about the Acme Recording Corporation based in New York City. It was probably active at least in the 1940s and 1950s. Bits and pieces of information I have come across seem to suggest that it used a franchising business model. I.e., the company manufactured 10" 78s of material recorded by independent contractors using company provided recording equipment. The contractors then bought the recordings at wholesale and were able to market them as they pleased.
In the world of early country music, the label is perhaps best known for its early 1950s recordings of the Carter Family. However, the few other ACMEs I've seen are all over the place in terms of music genre and degree of artistic talent.
