From Tom Fine: "Rolling Stones do not own their Decca-era masters (through
"Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out"). They started their own record label, first
distributed by Atlantic, in 1970. There was a fight with Decca over a last
album owed. "Metamorphosis" resulted, which contained out-takes and
incomplete tracks. I forget the exact history, but I think the Stones did
not authorize its release, but what they delivered to Decca was
un-releasable..."
Andrew Oldham told me they owned all of their masters, leased them to Decca
and ABKO was formed and then contracted to handle catalog sales paying
unprecedentedly high royalties because of the low overhead. In fact I
suspect the Stones may even own part of ABKCO because he told me their
corporate structure in Holland and Switzerland to avoid taxes had been put
together by both Mick Jagger and Allen Klein.
