Indeed. But for the cataloguer, to save the limited time of the specialist
worker, we need decent input/editing software which, once a transcribed
element has been entered, offers a copy as the basis for creating the
controlled access data -- or which (as in the case of a name in the statement
of responsibility, or another name area like performer credits) has the
facility to search and offer matches from the registered authority source(s).
No value is added if we don't make the cataloguer's work easier! Few
libraries plan to hire more cataloguers.
