What about this prosaic solution to the problem of a zillion authority records with the same unqualified name, which although they can be kept separate from each other and linked to their bib records with linking fields, but would confound humans who would need to wade through them to make the proper associations?
With greater flexibility in use of ‡c, qualify the otherwise-undifferentiated name with the phrase we now use in the 670's of undifferentiated records.
100 Jones, David, ‡c Author of The perfumed acres
100 Jones, David, ‡c Joint editor of Dictionnaire moderne français-anglais
100 Jones, David, ‡c Author of Discussion paper on information infrastructure for West Africa
And so on.
