>IMHO, it is unfortunate that in spite of rhetoric about RDA being a new world view, much of our discussion focusses on abbreviations, capitalization, etc.
This may be the case because issues like abbreviations, capitalization, etc. are the tangible bits of RDA that all or most of us understand and frequently encounter. Issues of transcription and keying are part of creating or updating most cataloging records, so if one finds a competing strategy to be wrong-headed, over-reaching, or pointless, it is nonetheless a constant of cataloging practice.
>Is this record really any more useful to the user now that I have made it "purer"?
IMNSHO, no. But then IMNSHO, for most titles we handle here, pure RDA is no more useful than pure--or even adulterated--AACR in the first place.
