What about WD40?
I've heard some good reports on that - that it won't hurt vinyl, but help to loosen junk from the surface.
Can anyone speak on WD40 from experience?

If it's truly vinyl, you might try applying an even coating of LockTite Wood Glue to the entire vinyl surface (not the label or spindle hole) and then
let it dry overnight. Carefully peeling this off the next day, as a
complete, if floppy, negative of the record, will lift all debris from the grooves - and, hopefully, the glue residue you have, now. This wood glue will not adhere to pvc once it is dry. Yes, I saw this technique on YouTube, but I have performed the trick, here, and it works better than a Monk at cleaning vinyl discs. If anyone can gainsay this practice, I'm all ears.
