Very interesting article and true to U. S. history of whenever it can be done cheaper, move right ahead -- never mind the quality considerations. I recall spending a day tracking the early Williams lifting orchestrations directly out of Tchaikovsky scores without any changes whatsoever. Although Williams was clever, he used some of the less widely-known works. Where would Williams be today without poor Pyotr Ilyich?
