As to what Mary Howard recorded of Toscanini, you would have to ask an
expert in the Toscanini discography like Seth Winner.
Columbia, indeed. entered the custom record business early, certainly by
1910. Are the Ginn & Co. Music Appreciation Records with the NYPO and Henry
Hadley really "insanely rare" now? I have most of them. As you may know, the
first ones were recorded by Gennett before Columbia took over. If they are
that rare, I'll have to put them up on eBay.
