I think this whole "debate" is a bit wrong-headed. What needs to be fixed is the current screwy
system where it's a better business model to keep material out of print than not. Copyright should
work to protect ownership of what's in print, but for a reasonable period of time, and should work
to discourage taking or keeping anything out of print. The first mechanism is a
commercial/individual benefit (the ability to own and profit from your creative work), the second is
a general-societal benefit (the ability to have access to, learn from and buy as wide a variety of
creative work as possible). Good laws encompass both goals.
