Hi Ben,
When you say the tape squeaks, what exactly do you mean? Do you mean
just externally when going through the machine's mechanism, or squealing
through the playback equipment? The latter was/is a major symptom of "sticky shed
syndrome." In fact, both can be.

Good morning, All.
I'm in the process of digitizing some open reel tapes. Some of the tape is ½ mil Mylar and it SQUEAKS. Is there any kind of lubricant I can use to stop that? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Is there anyone out there who can repair a TEAC X-100R (bi-directional) 4-strack stereo tape deck? It's a beauty, but the tape speed button does not work. It only plays at 7.5 and the torque selector for small and large reel doesn't work. I can't tell in which setting that's stuck. If I play the tape in forward the tape slips out of the guides, but if I play it in reverse it plays just fine.
The thing weighs a ton so the cost of shipping will probably be a killer by itself, but is there anyone out there who can repair those problems?
Regards,
Ben
