The folks at Indiana and Harvard University, acting under the auspices of the NEH put a great document together that deals with all facets of an audio archive including metatdata schema.
If you haven't yet checked out that document, I highly recommend it. It certainly has been very helpful in our own efforts.
Here's a link to the pdf.
Good luck,
Bill
