I am working in the UMD iSchool on a project involving the changes to EAD.
What are the implications of the shift from seeing EAD encoded finding
aids as documents to seeing them as structured data? Does it result in a
redefinition of archival description as we know it?
“The user community of encoding archivists and researching scholars,
inspired by the flexibility of Web 2.0 and institutional repository
technology such as Dspace, Fedora, and ContentDM, has begun to shift its
thinking from seeing EAD encoded finding aids as documents to seeing them
as collections of structured data.” --Elizabeth H. Dow, Jrl of Archival
Organization, Encoded Archival Description as a Halfway Technology 7:3

Thank you for any assistance you might have in this matter.
