Hello!
I tried to send this e-mail to the list last week, but it seems that it did
not come. I make a new try now and apologize if it comes twice.
Regards!

Hello!
This e-mail contains two parts to try to comment two related but different
topics within this thread.
> the HTML code escaped and no implementor
> is forced to recognize it.
In this example, the mods:title element contains an HTML snippet escaped
with XML entities. An HTML snippet is not a valid HTML serialization - it is
just a snippet (a non-complete part of a serialization). Putting this
snippet into
http://validator.w3.org/#validate_by_input will not validate. I am not
confortable with the use of a contentType="text/html" attribute to qualify
non-valid HTML.
I can imagine linking to such semantics, but if these semantics are not part
of the title, I would prefer not to put them in the mods:title element.
The second topic is about the suggested construct:
> abstract altRepGroup="A" altForm="http://foo.edu/alternate-markup.html"
contentType="application/xhtml+xml"
I consider this would be a good approach to try to solve this problem.
I wonder though whether we could add an @hreflang attribute with semantics
similar to the XHTML @hreflang attribute. Thus we could use several abstract
elements to link to information in different languages. This could be a
great feature, but I am not sure whether it could be considered being within
the scope of what MODS intends to accomplish.
Furthermore, I would also like to suggest to use a more XMLish approach with
xlink which could help us to avoid the addition of new MODS attributes with
semantics already defined within xlink.
Regards!
