One week from today, the first sessions of ARSC 2012 will take place. As
you've seen from the schedule
(http://www.arsc-audio.org/conference/pdf/2012PreliminarySchedulerev.pdf
), Day 1 will present a wide array of topics, ending around 5:30. At
7:30 the Technical Committee is offering an open Q&A session.
In the two hours in between, you might consider visiting one or both of
the fine used record stores in town. The Bop Shop
(http://www.bopshop.com) has been mentioned on this list before, and
there will be a discount coupon in your conference bag to use there.
Also, Record Archive (http://www.recordarchive.com) will also have a
flyer in your packet. On that Thursday, if you present your name badge
you can get a free, locally produced Zweigles hot dog
(http://www.zweigles.com, and you can impress owner Dick Storm by asking
for a white hot) and beverage of your choice. Entertainment will be
provided by the Revengineers (http://www.revengineers.com), a
self-described Nintendo Rock Band who actually use video game sounds in
their music.
Neither store is within walking distance of the hotel, so if you didn't
drive, make friends with someone who did, or you can take a taxi (taxis
are generally pretty cheap in Rochester, I'm told, at least in
comparison to other cities).
BTW, the extended weather forecast for next week is calling for nothing
but sun, highs around 70. You'll come to realize why Rochester is often
referred to as the San Diego of the northeast.
