This article from the weekend WSJ caught my attention:

Since the next conference is in Homestead country, I wonder if there's a presentation in here, "the
sounds of the bygone west." This could include earliest recordings made out on the plains, oral
histories from homesteaders (surely some of them were still living when recording oral histories
started out there), maybe tie in the role of land-grant colleges in the preservation of audio, etc
etc. Many possibilities, all of them interesting!
