Michele,
We convert ours to MODS (the bibliographic record for the Fedora repository object), then convert that to MARCXML for the library catalog. This could be a risky endeavor, since PQ doesn't provide a schema against which to validate the dissertation metadata. Here, we built our own schema (fairly loose) to provide a kind of sanity check.
Some other pitfalls: the dissertation metadata is in the iso-8859-1 character set, so you'll probably need a process to convert to UTF-8. There are sometimes xml-escaped formatting elements and xml-escaped character entities, so there's a bit of clean-up involved.
