May I add that those broadcast recordings (issued on RCA 2 CD set "Artie
Shaw At The Blue Room/Cafe Rouge") - sound far more superior in terms of
clarity, overall balance, and, playing (of course) then official studio
sessions issued on Bluebird? Especially, I always thought they did something
quite wrong in microphone placement and in mixing technique during studio
sessions - dull, muddy and lifeless recording samples of one of the greatest
swing band.

I think Shaw was of like mind- he used several airchecks on his "self
Portrait" CD

I would say the same for live recordings of Artie Shaw's band of
1939 --better than the studio work.
