I have a copy of each CD issue of this recording, and you are correct in that only the first uses the taped performances. All subsequent CD reissues use disc masters. I don't believe that first issue was recalled, however. Columbia knew about the error but kept on selling that version until the R&H 50th Anniversary Edition came out. I am grateful to a fellow blogger who integrated the missing snippet from that release so that you'd never know it was missing in an additional copy I possess.
