Transfers from the original master tapes rather than second or third
generation copies was probably the real step upward.
My experience with DSD was that some DSD sounded better than some 96x24
converters and worse than others. My conclusion is that it was probably more
a question of implementation than of DSD being superior or inferior to PCM.
This has been the case with many things digital.
