Not all Revox machines "work well and go on working". The A-700 was a disaster very soon after it was put on the market. This was supposed to be their top-of-the-line model with an interchangeable head nest which allowed you to quickly change the entire machine from a quarter track to half track machine. It also had all three standard speeds, 3 3/4, 7 1/2 and 15 ips. The recording quality was fine but the level controls were useless; they became very noisy and whenever you inquired about bringing an A-700 in for service, you were always alerted that they can't fix those controls.

Which is much more than I could say for the two large Tandberg machines I bought in the early '90s. TD 20s of some sort. They did indeed provide good sound, as you wrote, but when one worked, the other didn't. Also as you wrote, at least about yours. I spent thousands of dollars on them and might as well have taken the money and set fire to it. So I understand your having a Tandberg that doesn't work. I'd think Revox would be a good machine to get.
