Actually the OpenOffice suite has now been superceded since the original s/w team left. A better more up-to-date version is now called: LibreOffice 3.4 (or above).
Secondly whilst a spreadsheet is good for listing files and their attributes / metadata is it possible to run a script to import the metadata directly into a spreadsheet automatically? Otherwise with thousands of files to record that's one heck of a big typing job!!
