Hello Brian,
Here are four suggestions to a probable cause:
- Assuming you are transferring digitally, the sound card might have
been clocking to another source - check input settings on the soundcard
- The Wavelab record window might be set to 44.1kHz instead of the
incoming (digital signal) 48K - check the Wavelab record settings
- The PC might be running out of memory - check there is enough
harddisk space, restart, defrag and close any other background processes
- also make sure Wavelab is not minimized or in the background, it
doesn't like that!
- If all else fails confirm the cabling from DAT to input is plugged
in sufficiently, then try a different cable (unlikely but possible)
Other routes could be to swap the DAT machine and chase the fault. Also
keeping DAT machine heads clean with dry cleaning tape.
One question I have, does the DA20 operate at 24 bit? I had one many
years ago but can't remember. We have a DA-45HR which does 24 bit so
thinking the DA20 doesn't. I wouldn't have thought Wavelab would have
cared about the mismatch but perhaps might be another possible cause.
Good luck,
alex.
