Someone --- I no longer recall who --- thought it would be fun to record
Nilsson on a cylinder (I believe she had seen a photo of an early recording
session, possibly in Gelatt's book), play it for the critics assembled for
the intermission show, and ask the critics to identify the singer and
comment on the performance. They found me. They could identify no one else who
was trying to make new brown wax cylinders at the time.
I was shaving mouldy cylinders and, using a two and four minute Edison
Home, had some fun recording on poorly shaven blanks, using an Edison cutter
available to consumers for home recording. Recording artists included P.
Carlin Charosh, and A. Forest Raymond (AFR Lawrence). ;-) Some of the
cylinders survive.

Mr. Charosh,
Thanks for this information and your subsequent message stating the
correct Wagner selection that was recorded.
What were the circumstances of the Nilsson acoustical recording?

I recorded it for an Met Opera intermission broadcast in 1966.

I haven't heard about this one, but maybe someone else on the list knows
something about it.
