Just a note on binaural vs. stereo.
Binaural recordings were recorded using two discrete channels, often using co-incident microphones and were assumed to be best heard through headphones;
Stereo recordings, per. Wm. Snow, were recorded through three or more channels, and were intended to be reproduced through loudspeakers.
A point of interest - Decca filed its experimental two-channel recordings under a BN (Binaural) prefix; they totaled some 600 titles until the advent of the 45/45 two-channel disc.
