"Hours later" probably wasn't "sufficiently". I know that with
an immersed cell phone, our phone centers tell customers not
to try to power them up for two days. And, of course, salt water
is exponentially more damaging than a dunk in the toilet. If
you could have opened the case immediately and flushed it with
fresh water it might have had a marginally better chance, but
the news in these type of events is usually always bad. Sorry.
The good news is that the SD card is probably OK, and with the
incredibly low cost of these digital recorders nowadays, the
contents of the card are frequently more valuable.
