Hi Tom,

I don't have any hands on yet but I've researched the Plustek line of scanners and, I've concluded this is the next best option to the no-longer available Nikon. My suggestion would be to consider the 8100 or 8200i as either model offers twice the hardware resolution of the 7400. At least compare the specs before you buy.

We have years of family photographs which are comprised of mainly 35mm
negatives and slides (some older B/W formats as well). I have decided on the 8200i because of the
resolution (color and B/W) and bundled software. Plustek does have a model (the 120) that will handle 2-1/4 X 2-1/4 as well as 35mm but it's pricey at $2000.00. I have decided that for the few larger format negs that we have, I will have them scanned professionally.

Even more interesting would be a scanner that would take 2-1/4 x 2-1/4 color
slides for under $200!
