Actually, the original tracks (up to late in the White Album sessions)
were done on a Studer 1" 4-track machine. The wide tracks help explain
how they managed to avoid noise problems despite multiple generations of
bounce-downs. (Using CCIR equalization rather than NAB helped with the
noise too.)
