Mike knows so much about records that I'm more than willing to doubt my statement that some of the Lincoln and other Ormandy violin records were acoustical. I was relying upon memory. I'll play those I have when I get my equipment fixed.
I've also heard about people bringing Ormandy violin 78s backstage when they met him and that, rather than being pleased, his reaction was frosty. He wanted those records in his career forgotten indeed.

Hype on both counts - Gene made violin records in the late 20s, though not so
far as I know acoustic ones. After he got hooked up with Arthur Judson and
became a conductor, he wanted everyone to forget he ever made them.
