Titles and terms of address would not be in parentheses in $c, whereas
"Other designations" would:
Smith, John, Sir
Smith, John (Defendant)
The acceptance of these proposals would mean that many $c qualifiers in
records with the 667 tag will not need to be changed, or will only need
to be changed in terms of syntax (i.e. to add parentheses in some
cases). Possibly we could identify some of the common cases and add
parentheses automatically? Gary, you'll note that in the Task Group $c
spreadsheet I flagged a number of qualifiers as legal if our proposals
were accepted.
We might want to consider to what extent we will anticipate the changes,
before they are published in RDA. Probably we ought to wait at least
until the full texts are available. It does now seem daft to remove
qualifiers like "Sir", "Lady", "Captain", and so on, when they will be
legal again next year.
Regards
Richard

Richard, or perhaps Gary Strawn?
Your message "List members may already be aware that JSC also approved
RDA change proposals 6JSC/BL/3 and 6JSC/BL/4 (with revisions), so we
will shortly be able to qualify personal names with other terms
indicative of rank, honour or office (Captain, Reverend, Sir, etc.), and
other appropriate designations (Gentleman, Defendant, etc.) "

How will this 'work' with the current 667 message added to many AACR2
headings of this type? Are these all going to be in $c ( )? So most
will need still review?
I have already seen some of these being changed, some I'm happy to say
with dates instead but others with professions, etc. Any guidance would
be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Mary Charles Lasater
