Apart from length of program code, yes, IF the terms were always
uniform. In our experience, there are typos and minor variations.
We already have both the English and French terms associated with the
codes in machine form. We don't know when the RDA terms will be
settled (they are still in flux), and we have neither the English nor
French terms in machine form.
Whether the French RDA will be freely available or require a license,
we do not yet know.
What is theoretically possible, and what is easy to do at any one
time, are two very different things.
As a side note: in the recent rare book cataloguers' letter to PCC,
all the relationship terms listed as missing from RDA but one
("bookseller") are in the MRIs, which were taken from RDA. Perhaps
they missed them because they are broken up into WEMI lists in RDA?
Or have they be subsequently removed? We have added "[bookseller
consider seller]" to the MRI list (which is in one alphabetic order);
"seller" was already there.
