Whenever I do my record excavations at thrift stores,I always look at those records pressed by vanity labels like Century,of school orchestras,in case I come across that rare gem by a Stokowski,a Janos Starker,or someone of that stature.I never do,but I found one such interesting record at Goodwill, today. It is of course on the ubiquitous Century label "Illinois Music Educators Association Grand Finale State Festival Band and Orchestra 1964" Century 17986.Side 2 is the interesting one, with Thor Johnson conducting the Illinois All-State Orchestra in the Overture to "Rosamunde",and an orchestration by somebody named Wilson of the L'arleslienne Suite.I suppose if you live in Illinois, you see this record all the time.Since I do not,I had never seen it before.I of course know of Johnson, through his Decca/London,Remington,Colunbia,and Composer's Rercordings Inc records.I have one of these CRI records.I suppose Johnson was a regular feature at school or student
concerts?
So,what other interesting records like this,of student orchestras, have the rest of you turned up?
