Your question is timely. This spring we are investigating the communications aspects of the Bibframe model against our existing and heavily used protocols like Z39.50, SRU, CQL, and OAI and also considering possible future protocols that use new technologies. We do not doubt that the current protocols can be used but their actions need to be matched against the new model. CQL, for example, may need some additional attributes, and even Z39.50 may. We will make public all the information that we "generate" on this topic, knowing how important these protocols are to the community -- and to us also.
Regards, Sally

Subject: Re: [BIBFRAME] Z39.50
Perhaps I was too brief. Right now if I need a MARC record for what I'm cataloging I can use Z39.50 software to find it and transfer it to my local system. In fact I can do a batch of downloads at one time. How will I do that with BibFrame? Copy/download the BibFrame "record" like a Web page? One at a time? Sorry if this is too simplistic a question.

Has there been any discussion of if or how the functions of Z39.50 transfers will be addressed by BibFrame?
