Over on the 78-L Cary Ginell posted an article which explained that Columbia was issuing Dylan outtakes and un-released recordings from 1962 because they might lose their copyright if the 20 year copyright extension goes into effect in the E.C. and the use-it-or-lose-it clause for 50-70 year old recordings come into play. We have always considered that it was 50 years from PUBLICATION that determined copyright date, but looking at the directive looks like it is FIXATION that starts the clock -- and issued or not issued or publication is not mentioned. Are we about to be given a gift of all 50+ years-old outtakes and un-released recordings????? http://www.medialawbytesandpieces.com/2013/02/10/publish-or-perish-sony-releases-compilation-of-50-year-old-bob-dylan-bootlegs-to-comply-with-eu-directive/?goback=.gde_2132883_member_213142359 http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2011:265:0001:0005:EN:PDF Mike Biel [log in to unmask]
