I think the hamburg recordings are fascinating early documents of their
recording potential. Their enthusiasm and energy shines on the backup
instrumentation to "My Bonnie"; you can hear, for the first time, the nice
3-part harmonies of John, Paul and George on "Why"; and the terrific guitar
sound of John and George (as well as the only Lennon/Harrison composition)
on "Cry For A Shadow" still sounds exciting, to these ears anyway.
