Yes, and our bibliographic records changed--at least the ones linked to that one authority record (over 3,600 as author; several hundred as subject) But in the real world of systems and their limitations, we need to watch and control large changes so that we don't bring down our local system. And of course we now have lots of split files, since many Dept. of State subdivisions still exist. I guess that will be 'standard' for several months. (years?)

Couldn't the changes from "Dept." to "Department" in the authority file be as globally automated as any similar changes to bibliographical databases?
