The changes made to personal name subfield $d are made to all occurrences of subfield $d in personal names, not just when subfield $d is at the end of the X00 field. So yes, $d in name/title headings will be changed as part of the big sweep through the LC/NACO authority file coming next month.

Of possible interest:

The program that makes all these RDA-related changes will start with record #1 in a copy of the LC/NACO Authority File at LC, and will change 30,000 records per work day, until it reaches the end of the file. The order of records in this copy of the file should be (approximately) the order in which records were created. This means, in turn, that most of the time, a "plain name" will be encountered, and changed, before any associated name/title (or other extended) records are changed--simply because most of the time the plain name will have been established before any of its dependents. But you can't necessarily count on that: it will no doubt be the case some times that an extended heading will be encountered and changed before the main heading is changed. The change to a plain name does not trigger the change to records with extensions of that name; the program considers each authority record in turn, in isolation. We won't be able fully to gauge the result of the conversion until the program has reached the end of the file.

Subject: [PCCLIST] Changing AACR2 headings for persons requires change to associated name-titles?

Hello everyone,

We've been wondering about record 010 n 50032948, which when updated to an RDA record included the change of year from:

Byrd, William, $d 1539 or 40-1623 to Byrd, William, $d 1539 or 1540-1623.

Will the associated name-title changes all be made in batch with the changes in March?

If not, could we report this to OCLC to update?

It's a lot of work to do them all one-by-one.

Regards, Karen
